The Spiritual Assessment

Length: 956 words

A brief summary of my assessment finding is that Ms. Brown’s spirituality was a strong bond between the both of us since we had something in common. This common foundation is a Christian based foundation. Ms. Brown was very polite and was eager to answer my questions that had written down earlier. The significant discoveries made with Ms. Brown was that she was a raised from a Christian foundation, Baptist to be exact. Even though my Christian foundation is base from a non-denominational church, we made some type of connection together.

The first question I asked Ms. Brown was, What are your spiritual beliefs? ” Ms. Brown answered “l believe in God and that He has a purpose for my life. I like to meditate in prayer for questions and answers that may be looking for. ” The second question I asked was, “How do you meditate? She answered, “l mediate by sitting in a closed room, by myself. I then talk to God as if he was right in front of me. I block out other distractions that may be going on around me. ” I could see that she was happy answering my questions, as she was smiley

politely back at me.

The hired question was asked, “Is there a group or person whom you have met with, meditated with or you think of providing spiritual support and/or guidance? ” Ms. Brown answered, “Yes, my best friend Rachel. We call each other once a week to talk. Then after we talk, we then agree to pray over the phone to each other. As an combat medic for the Army, I told Ms. Brown that am equivalent to an emergency medical technician (MET) in the civilian world. I has her, “If I was your health care provider or combat medic MET, is there anything that I can do to offer or provide spiritual support to you?

Ms. Brown answered, “Just talking to you, you have helped me vent out. I have realized that talking to you, there are things that need to pray about and for. If you don’t mind, I would like to pray for you and your family”. I agree to allow her to pray for my and my family. It was a nice feeling for someone else to offer this form of spirituality towards me. I am the one asking all the questions. My fifth and finial question Was answered by observation Of Ms. Brown. This question is, does your spirituality or belief system causes you to have peace within yourself?

This I knew, because Ms. Brown looked happy and peaceful even though she was diagnosis with cancer, high blood pressure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COP) just to list a few. She was very happy, polite and cheerful that I was talking to her. The things that went well during the interview was that she was very supportive in helping me with this essay. The nursing staff was very helpful in that we were allowed to a room to conduct the interview. I chose Ms. Brown because of her support for the military. I am currently an active duty service member in the United States Army.

Things that I would do differently in the future is to call the place that I wanted to conduct the interview first, instead of showing up In person. By calling, would know if I had permission to conduct such an interview. This would have let to all the confusion of who I really was and what was I doing. The nursing staff thought I was selling something to their patients. Once that explain that I was a college student trying to conduct an interview with one of the patients in the senior care home, everything when well right after.

There were some barriers or challenges in trying to complete the assessment tool with Ms. Brown. She was hard of hearing and I had to repeat the question over a few times to her. I should have had the questions written down available to her as I read. My spiritual experience grew when she offered to pray for my family and me. I could tell that her spirituality had something in common with mine. Even though she was going though some Of the issues that I had mentioned before, she was every calm, positive, and relax about her life. References The Spiritual Assessment. (n. D. ).
