Social Media Takes Over Our Social Lives
In today’s society, billions of people across the world are accessing the Internet multiple times a day. Why wouldn’t they? Most people have easy access to the Internet wherever they go lately with the innovation of smart phones where with just a touch of a button a person can check email, Facebook, bank account balance, daily news, you name it. But one of these things consumes more time than any of the others without even knowing it. Facebook, and other social networking sites, suck the life out of almost every user.

These days, young children and teens look at social networking sites as soon as they get out of bed in the morning, when they get bored in school, and when they get home from school. Adults are also accessing these sites before and after work and on their spare time at home. There is no doubt social networking sites provide social benefits when it comes to keeping in touch with friends. There are only a few people in the world where Facebook truly benefits them. Those few people are the ones who own these sites and are making millions of dollars from it. There is no doubt that Facebook messages and Facebook groups help students organize helpful academic information to share with the rest of the class.

However, in the end the benefits do not outweigh the problems social networking sites cause. Not only does social networking sites make people lazy and less productive but also, ironically enough, social networking makes people anti-“social”. There is no going back to the past where people did not use social networking sites but the more society understands how social networking sites have harmed us the better our future will look.
Over the past decade, social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter has been about creating that perfect profile to make the user look like the “online Mr. Cool”.
