Religious and Ethnic Groups Essay Essay
The spiritual group is chose was Jehovah’s Witnesses. I did some online research and besides asked my children’s Foster Mother. Regina Metzger the inquiries. I wanted to see what the differences of what I found online and what she said the beliefs were. So this is a mixture of what I got from my online beginnings and what she said. Jehovah’s Witnesses differ from other spiritual groups because they believe that their full Bible is the divine word of God. and alternatively of adhering to a credo based on human tradition. they hold to their bible as the criterion for all their beliefs.
Based on their bible. they believe that Jesus Christ is boy of God. the first of god’s creative activities. that he had a pre-human being and that his life was transformed from Eden to the uterus of a virgin. They believe that god’s land is the lone hope for world. They are many different nationalities. They have no biass against any race or colour. Their worship is through supplication. meetings and stating others about their bible. They believe that their Bible is the divine word of God. and alternatively of adhering to a credo based on human tradition. they hold their bible as the criterion.
The experience of the Jehovah’s Witnesses that other spiritual groups do non portion is that they are viewed with moral criterions that coincide with their bible. They are jurisprudence staying citizens that respect authorization. They show. what they believe is. echt Christian love to their neighbours. For illustration. let’s say there are two misss. One of which is a Jehovah Witness and one that is non. They both were asked to ptyalize on the American Flag. In this state of affairs. the Jehovah’s Witness won’t and the other would.
One might inquire “Why don’t you spit on the flag even though you don’t solute it? The reply from the Johana’s Witness would be merely. “I don’t pledge my commitment to the flag. but I wouldn’t disrespect it either. ” They are impersonal. Jehovah’s Witnesses contribute to the American Culture because they feel they are the advocators of their God’s land. They are non of the political. economic. or societal system of any state of the old universe. They did hold their modern twenty-four hours get down in the United States. They do pay revenue enhancements. which means they work regular occupations merely like any other individual. Jehovah’s Witnesses do non interfere with what others do about sharing in loyal ceremonials.
Like. sharing in the armed forces and fall ining a political party or even voting. They worship their God merely. They believe that if Christians under one state travel to war against another state they would be contending against fellow trusters. They believe that contending against the same people who prayed for aid to the same God is incorrect. That is why they won’t travel to war and will function clip in gaol or prison to avoid killing their Christian brothers and sisters. However they are non afraid to decease for their religion. If they are threatened with decease or to abdicate their religion. they will decease for what they believe in.
I know that before my kids went into surrogate attention I had limited information on what Jehovah’s Witnesses were all about. I was under the feeling that they merely went house to house on Saturdays strike harding on doors. I thought they were raging. Feeling like everyplace I went I was approached by one stating that they are the lone true word of God. when I thought my God was. I learned rapidly that everyone has a different thought of what their God was. Jehovah’s informants have been known to non observe vacations like birthdays. Christmas. or thanksgiving.
I would utilize their faith as a type of menace toward my kids stating “If you don’t strike hard it off we will go Jehovah’s Witness and so you won’t acquire nowadayss during birthdays or vacations. ” Since. my kids are in a place with this as the chief faith and belief system. I feel like I should apologise to them because I must hold sounded like a bigot. I think that the favoritism and pigeonholing that Jehovah’s Witnesses experience comes from a deficiency of apprehension by anyone of a different belief.
I think that what I have learned about this spiritual group did assist me nderstand it. It helped me to recognize that Jehovah’s Witnesses. like any other faith. merely want to demo everyone that what they believe is non bad. They want to demo what their faith agencies. They want the same as others do. the belief that you can be saved by a God. The racial/ethnic group that I chose is the Pacific Islanders. I chose this group because I don’t cognize nil about it. I think acquiring information on this group will be highly interesting. Pacific Islanders are from many different topographic points.
American Samoa. Cook Islands. Fiji. Gallic Polynesia. Guam. Hawaii. Kiribati. Marshall Islands. Micronesia. Nauru. New Caledonia. Niue. Norfolk Island. Mariana Islands. Palau. Solomon Islands. Tonga. ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www. whitehouse. gov/administration/eop/aapi/blog ) I thought that was really interesting. He talked about his Pacific Islander cultural background. He said: “We value these voices because from the really get downing. ours has been a state of immigrants ; a state challenged and shaped and push of all time frontward by diverse positions and fresh thought.
And in order to maintain our border and remain in front in the planetary race. we need to calculate out a manner to repair our broken in-migration system-to welcome that extract of newness. while still keeping the digesting strength of our Torahs. And the service and the leading of Asiatic Americans and Pacific Islanders have proved that point in clip and once more. ” Listening to him give a address about the illustriousness of Pacific Islanders made me appreciate that cultural group even more. Pacific Islanders speak over 100 different linguistic communications and come from more than 56 cultural groups. ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www. Center for Disease Control and Prevention. ov/features/aapiheritagemonth/ ) .
They are parts of many different faiths. Like the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Turning up in my church there were many Pacific Islanders members of our church. I can retrieve many of them holding large households with many kids. The Pacific Islanders do many things to lend to American Culture. They contribute by working occupations. 7. 4 million Asiatic Americans and Pacific Islanders are employed in the United States. They make up 5. 3 % of the entire work force in the United States. Like many other civilizations. they bring their delightful nutrients. They have a battalion of nutrient from different states. They bring that all to the tabular array here in the United States. Although some of them have changed their diets to a more of an American manner of feeding. some still eat the nutrients of their lands. Throughout history. there has been many cases of racism and sexism toward Pacific Islanders in the United States Pacific Islanders continue to confront subjugation. racism. and favoritism in the United States.
Since Pacific Islanders have a higher rate of diabetes they were charged higher rates for wellness insurance. The Affordable Care Act Will be a really good alteration for Pacific Islanders. They are known to endure from higher rates of all types of round diseases like. shot. high blood pressure. and coronary bosom disease. They besides have the highest rates of fleshiness. The Affordable Care Act will alter it so that it will be easier to acquire wellness attention for them. Some provinces have had an English-only type of enterprise.
They seem to be for people who merely speak English. I had no thought they were even allowed by jurisprudence. It seems as though that people find ways to know apart even with the Torahs that have been put in topographic point. Just because some people can non talk any other linguistic communication. besides English. For them everything demands to be in English and no other linguistic communication. About a century before. European-Americans did non allow people who didn’t speak English to larn English because they were afraid that they would go a minority. They were afraid of being “out-smarted” by others.
They didn’t want to hold to vie for fright of losing. I don’t believe this is just. That is why I am glad there are some many Torahs coming into consequence every bit good as more to come to do this state an even better topographic point. ( hypertext transfer protocol: //aspe. Department of Health and Human Services. gov/health/reports/2012/ACA & A ; AsianAmericans & A ; PacificIslanders/rb. shtml ) Most European Americans have discriminated against Pacific Islanders because they didn’t know English. The European Americans were afraid that if the Pacific Islanders learned English they would transcend them in many ways.
They would go the minority. Many of the European Americans were believed to be threatened by this. I think I now have a better apprehension of what it is like to be a Pacific Islander. The favoritism they have faced has seemed to do them a stronger people. I am happy to hold them as portion of my state. In decision. both Jehovah’s Witnesses and The Pacific Islander. people have experienced a favoritism that seems to hold happened because of people who do non understand what they go through daily.
They both seem to win in their lives because of the favoritism they have experienced. The Jehovah’s Witnesss hold up to their beliefs like the Pacific Islanders stand strong with their cultural background. They are different because one is a faith and one is an cultural group. An cultural group is a group of people who have the same imposts or beginning. A faith is a belief in a God or a group of Gods. I think that both the Pacific Islanders and the Jehovah’s Witnesses get discriminated against because of a deficiency of apprehension.
