They are waiting on rain to come for their crops. When the rain does come she feels her dad Is getting better, and in the end her hands will not stop her from playing piano. The novel is historical. It was located in the Southwestern Great Plains of the United States, otherwise known as the Dust Bowl. It takes place during the Great Depression. The Dust Bowl Is when you didn’t get any rain.

They made do with what they had. It wasn’t much but they were satisfied. The Dust Bowl brought In tornadoes made of dust, which covered everything with dust from two Inches to two feet. The author of Out of the Dust Is Karen Hess. Karen has written multiple books like, The Music of Dolphins, Just Juice, and Come On, Rain. According to online references, Karen Hess wrote Out of the Dust because she was so fascinated with that time period.
The view point of the book Is first person, It Is told by Billy Joe. The book Is fictional, and It does cover and historical event, The Dust Bowl. What can be learned from this book Is that you should be thankful for what you have. Make do with what you have. Billy Joe and her family didn’t have a lot but they had what they need to survive. Most of It was love. Life Is not always goanna be easy or fair. Billy Joe had to grieve over the loss of her mother and brother. She had scars from trying to save her family and house. She helped take care of her baby brother Franklin the few days he lived.
Billy Joe had a lot n her plate, but she took It and made do. What will be etched on my mind Is the fire at the house. I can only Imagine trying to save my house while It catches on fire, and also trying to save my mother and unborn brother. I did not have any connections with the book only because I have never had to save my house, mother, and brother. But I have had to grieve over close family members. I cannot Imagine losing my mother and siblings. I am so thankful for both of them and the book helped me realize that I do not need a lot of things to be happy.
