Matter and the Changes it Undergoes

Chemistry
The study of the composition of matter and the changes that matter undergoes.

Matter
Anything that has mass and takes up space(volume)

Scientific Theory
Observation, Research, Hypothesis, Experiment, Analyze, Theory

Hypothesis
An educated guess, after research

Pure Substance
Sample of matter with definite and constant composition.

Mixture
A combination of different substances.

Element
Substance consisting of atoms which all have the same number of protons.

Homogeneous
A like, of same kind.

Heterogenous
Not a like in content

Compound
A pure chemical substance, 2 or more chemical elements.

Physical Property
Any property that is measurable, whose value describes physical properties.

Physical Change
Change in which the form of matter is changed, but one substance is not transformed into another.

Chemical Change
A change of chemical properties, resulting in the formation of at least one new substance.

Chemical Property
Any properties of matter that may only be observed and measured by performing a chemical change.

Intensive
Properties that do NOT depend on matter present.

Extensive
Properties that do depend on matter present.

Properties
Property of substance observed during a reaction in which the chemical composition is changed.

Measurment
A collection of quantitative data.

Accuracy
How close the result comes to the true value.

Precision
How well experimental data agrees with others in multiple tests.

Factor Label
A technique to convert one quantity to another.

Conversion Factor
Numerical ratio to express a measurement from one unit to another.

Density
Mass per unit volume.
