is heavily influenced by Arabic and is written with the Roman alphabet. English is also an official language and is still widely used. Kenya has no official religion. More than 50 per cent of the population is Christian. Also, many of the people follow traditional religious practices. The population of Kenya was estimated to be about 27,000,000 in 1994. 85 per cent of the total population live in cities of Nairobi and Mombassa. Kenya has one of the highest rates of population growth in the world. It is predicted that the population may reach 120 million by the year 2050. This rapid rate of increase is due to the high birth rate and the low death rate. More than half of the population is under the age of fifteen. The rapid population growth has placed great strains on health facilities and other social services, especially in rural areas. The main source of income for Kenya comes from agriculture.

Coffee and tea are the most valuable crops. Together they account for approximately 50 per cent of all forigien exchange earnings. Because of the rapidly growing population, Kenya now imports large quantities of food, praticularly wheat. Unemployment is high. Expecally in the urban areas. Kenya is also the world’s leading the manufacture of pesticides. Corn, and rice are other crops grown in Kenya. Kenya is the most highly industries include agricultural processing plants, a petroleum refinery at Mombassa, a pulp and paper mill at Webuye, and several textile and automobile accessibly plants. The chief manufactured products (from imported petroleum), chemicals, cement, and consumer goods. Tourism has become the national’s largest forgien exchange earner. Kenya gets more visitors than any other country in the tropical are it’s national parks, wild life preservers, and the Indian Ocean coast.

Bantu tribes migrated eastward and southward across the continent from West Africa and entered Kenya about 1000 years ago. The Nilotic people entered from the North at the end of the 15th century. The Europeans started to arrive in Kenya in the late 19th century. What interested me most about this country was that 85 per cent of the population lives in one-fifth of the country. I found this interesting because there is so much land still there that is not being used and a large number of people are crowding into cities.

In my opinion I think it is rather silly for people to want to live in over populated areas when they could live in the complete opposite. It’s not just in Kenya that people do this. They do this in different places all over the world. The overall impression that I got of this country is that it is a nice place and very modernized. Compaired to the other Afrian countries, Kenya is a really modernized country. It sounds like it would be a great place to visit. It must be if their tourism is doing so well. I would really like to go there to see the animals. Kenya has wonderful national parks and wildlife preserves that I think I would really enjoy. Kenya sounds like a fantastic place.
