Sympathy and empathy are distinct terms with significant differences. They both involve the expression of emotions.

Supporting others during challenging times can be difficult as we may struggle to find the right words and fear worsening the situation. However, it is crucial to offer comfort and alleviate their pain. One of the most impactful moments in my life occurred when I empathized with a close friend after her mother's death. Knowing their family for ten years, I felt deeply connected to them all. Witnessing her mother's decline due to diabetes and cancer was distressing, as they had been aware of her impending death and counted down the days until it happened. When she eventually passed away, like everyone else in similar situations, I was left speechless. Instead of relying on words, I chose to simply be there for my friend and her family. They under

stood that I shared their grief without needing any explanation.

Throughout this difficult period, I made sure to always make myself available for them, offering comfort whenever necessary. as best as I could. It's often tough to fully grasp the intensity of someone's pain, even if you acknowledge it. This lack of understanding creates a disconnect where mere words can't console the person in agony. However, one must adapt in such situations. My capacity for empathy stemmed from my own difficult loss when my beloved aunt passed away. Spending substantial time with her made me deeply feel her absence in my life too. She supported me, celebrated my achievements, and encouraged me during tough times. Hence, I truly understood the grief felt by both friends and family members - knowing that no words or actions could alleviate their pain; only time could heal it. Despite being unable to escape reality, I endeavored to be there for them because I believed it mattered greatly. What struck me most during our conversations was her attentive listening - she listened like no other before. To her, I wasn't just a friend but also her closest and most trusted confidant. The most impactful part of our conversation was when I attempted to empathize with her despite not having experienced a similar situation myself.
Although it was difficult for me to grasp her emotions and situation, she expressed that in a way that left me uncertain of how to provide solace. Yet, what truly struck me was the heartbreaking revelation she made about her difficult upbringing with her mother. However, what truly amazed me was her attentive demeanor during our conversation where she spoke with great logic and thoughtfulness.
