It is a skill in treating others based on their emotional reactions. Social skills mean you are able to build relationships and build networks. You’re able to find a common ground with others.
It is important for people for have emotional intelligence for many reasons. One reason is your physical health. By being aware of your emotional state and your reactions to stress in your life you can find ways to manage stress better and maintain good health. Another reason Emotional intelligence is important is mental-health. Emotional intelligence affects your attitude and outlook on life. It can also help to alleviate anxiety and avoid depression and mood swings. A high level of emotional intelligence directly correlates to a positive attitude and happier outlook on life.
Emotional intelligence also correlates with conflict resolution. When we can discern people’s emotions and emphasize with their perspective, it’s much easier to resolve conflicts or possibly avoid them before they start. There are several ways people can enhance their emotional intelligence. Connect your feelings with your thoughts. Think about your feelings and evaluate them. Learn to deal with them instead of dismissing them. Another way to enhance your emotional intelligence is by listening to your body. Knots in your stomach from something means it causes stress.
Listening to these negations and the underlying feelings that they signal will allow you to process with your powers of reason. Also you can ask somebody you know and trust how you are coming across if you don’t know how you are feeling. Another thing you can do is write your thoughts and feelings down. I personally took a quiz on my own emotional intelligence. According to the quiz I had slightly above average emotional intelligence.
