Levels of sanctions
Alternative sanctions, intermediate sanctions, full sanctions.
These sanctions provide an alternative to incarceration and include probation, community supervision, and other diversion programs.
The sanctions can include incarceration if offenders fail to comply with the terms of the sentence, but are more focused and rehabilitative program such as drug treatment or vocational training. Drug court is an intermediate sanction.
These sanctions include incarceration and loss of freedom, whether or not treatment is included.
